Rizam’s Natural Farming Journey in Malaysia: A Story of Purpose, Perseverance, and Progress

Empowering Indigenous Communities Through Natural Farming

In the heart of an Orang Asli village in Malaysia, a young changemaker named Rizam embarked on a mission to uplift his community. In July 2025, he personally approached OA Organik to seek assistance in marketing and advisory support for natural farming. This marked the beginning of his journey – one rooted in chemical-free approach to agriculture and cultural resilience. His goal? To address social challenges among indigenous youth and promote healthier food choices.

Building the Foundation for Natural Farming Success

With mentorship from OA Organik, Rizam laid the groundwork for a thriving natural farm. His early efforts focused on:

  • Installing a sustainable irrigation system
  • Constructing a protective seedling house
  • Enriching the soil with organic fertilizers

These foundational steps were critical to ensure high-quality organic produce and long-term farm sustainability.

First Planting: Sawi Hong Kong in September

By mid-September 2025, Rizam planted his first crop: sawi Hong Kong (Hong Kong mustard greens). He adopted a small-scale approach to master the techniques of natural vegetable farming.

His philosophy was clear: “Quality over quantity.”

“My vegetables may not grow as fast or as large as conventional ones, but they are safer, fresher, and naturally sweet—free from chemical pesticides and insecticides.”

First Harvest and Community Impact

In just three months, by mid-October, Rizam celebrated his first harvest. The results were a testament to the power of natural farming in Malaysia:

  • Crisp, flavorful sawi Hong Kong
  • 100% chemical-free, organic vegetables
  • Proof that natural farming can thrive in lowland indigenous communities, even with climate and pest challenges

This milestone wasn’t just about vegetables—it was about hope, resilience, and sustainable progress.

Why Rizam’s Natural Farming Journey Matters

Rizam’s story highlights the transformative potential of natural farming for indigenous communities. His journey supports:

  • Community empowerment through self-sustaining livelihoods
  • Healthier food systems rooted in local, organic produce
  • Environmental stewardship by avoiding harmful chemicals

His success aligns with our social enterprise’s mission: to support indigenous farmers in Malaysia through sustainable, regenerative farming practices.
